Xue Wu Receives ASHEcon Diversity Scholarship
Economics doctoral student Xue Wu is selected as one of the recipients of the 2022 Diversity Scholarship by the American Society of Health Economists (ASHEcon). She will be financially supported to attend and present her research at the 2022 ASHEcon health economics conference in Austin, TX in June.

Quan Qi Receives the Karen R. Hitchcock New Frontiers Fund Award
Economics doctoral student Quan Qi has been selected for one of the Karen R. Hitchcock New Frontiers Fund Awards. The award is one of the Initiatives for Women. The fund will support her research project, presentation and publication.

Two Economics Faculty Members Get Promoted
The Economics Department is pleased to announce the promotion of two faculty members. Laurence Kranich has been promoted to a full professor and Chun-Yu Ho has been promoted to an associate professor. Congratulations!

Four Students Receive the Gordon Karp Award
Corrine Berchtold, Benjamin Bonitz, Cassidy Bowes, and Olivia Brownell are the 2022 recipients of the Gordon Karp memorial award for outstanding academic performance in economics. The Gordon Karp Memorial Fund was established as a memorial to Gordon Karp, to honor his special character and commitment to high standards of academic achievement.

Deepti Sikri Receives Benevolent Association Research Grant
Economics doctoral student Deepti Sikri has been selected as a recipient of Benevolent Association Research Grant for Spring 2022. Her research project is titled “Effect of Macroprudential Policy on Exchange Market Pressure”. The research aims to study the impact of macroprudential policy on measures of exchange market pressure in emerging markets and OECD countries using causal inference methods.

Won Sung Receives Conference Travel Support From Graduate Student Employees Union
Won Sung, who is expected to finish his PhD degree in May 2022, is receiving financial support for his conference presentation from the Graduate Student Employees Union (GSEU). He plans to present his research at the 20th International Industrial Organization Conference held in Boston in May 2022.

Three Doctoral Students Receive Funding from Center for Aging and Policy Studies
Economics doctoral students Quan Qi, Min Jang and Xue Wu are each receiving $1,500 from the Center for Aging and Policy Studies (CAPS) to attend the 2022 American Society of Health Economists conference held in Austin, Texas in June 2022.

Cassidy Bowes wins Presidential Award for Undergraduate Research
Cassidy Bowes has been selected as a recipient of the 2021-2022 Presidential Award for Undergraduate Research at the University at Albany for her research project titled, “Gender differences in labor market outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic" under the supervision of Professor Pinka Chatterji.
