University Policy & Procedure for Organized Research Units (ORU)
The Division for Research and Economic Development, under the leadership of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development, is responsible for implementing the UAlbany’s Policy for Organized Research Units (ORU).
Please use the following forms to establish and manage an ORU:
- Letter of Intent (LOI) to Apply to Establish an ORU: Individuals expecting to apply to establish a new ORU must submit an LOI at least one month prior to the full application submission. This allows the ORU Review Committee to anticipate workloads. Preview the LOI form.
- Application to Establish an ORU: Individuals and groups seeking a one-year provisional approval for a new ORU must submit this application form for review. Preview the application form.
- Request for Provisional Approval of an ORU: Individuals seeking to change an existing ORU's name, status or mission must complete and submit this application form for review and decision. Preview the provisional request form.
- Application to Change ORU Name, Status or Mission: Individuals seeking to change an existing ORU's name, status or mission must complete and submit this application form for review and decision. Preview the change application form.
- ORU Annual Report Submission: Directors are notified by email when ORU Annual Reports are due. Generally, reports are due one week before the end of each fiscal year. Here is a sample report from 2024.
