The award recognizes students who exemplify the intelligence, dedication, and scholastic accomplishment that marked the promising career of Gordon Karp, a distinguished economics graduate of UAlbany.

Allison Nunez Receives Distinguished Doctoral Award
We are delighted to announce that Alison Nunez has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious Distinguished Doctoral Award for 2022-23 for her dissertation, "Essays on Career Progression Among the Underrepresented in Academic Biomedicine." Each year, the Distinguished Doctoral Award is awarded to the best dissertation in any field in the college.

‘Project SAGES’ Supports UAlbany Women Researchers in STEM
Now in its second year, "Project SAGES" is thriving. The UAlbany initiative aims to increase representation and advancement of women researchers in STEM fields.

PhD Students Receive Funding from CAPS
Economics PhD Students Yiwei Li and Hyoshin Ki received funding from the Center for Aging and Policy Studies (CAPS) to attend an all-day methodology workshop entitled "Data Visualization using Stata" at Syracuse University on March 31, 2023. CAPS is an Upstate New York consortium focusing on the demography and economics of aging.

Kyoungah Noh Selected for Innovation Research Boot Camp
Economics PhD candidate Kyoungah Noh was selected to attend the 2023 NBER (National Bureau of Economic Research) Innovation Research Boot Camp with full financial support from NBER. The boot camp is a four-day training session for PhD students and junior scholars in Cambridge, MA in July 2023.

The Graduate School Hosts 5th Annual Three Minute Thesis Competition
The Graduate School's 5th annual Three Minute Thesis competition featured student research on wide-ranging topics — from forest-saving forensics and a local invasive insect to social media hashtags and student mental health.

Jayanta Talukder Takes Second Place in 3MT Competition
Economics Ph.D. candidate Jayanta Talukder took second place in the 2023 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. Talukder presented his doctoral thesis "Reverse Migration and Occupational Choice: Evidence from COVID-Induced Lockdown in India."
