Economists Win WISH/Project SAGES Seed Proposal Award
A research project by Professor Cuicui Chen, Professor Daiqiang Zhang and PhD candidate Chunyu Guo won the WISH/Project SAGES Seed Proposal Award. Their research project is entitled as "Distributional Impacts of Electrifying the Trucking Industry." The project aims to identify charging infrastructure designs under which truck electrification improves environmental justice and to quantify the role of charging infrastructure in mediating the distributional impacts of electric trucks.
Jayanta Talukder receives the Benevolent Association Research Grant
Economics doctoral student Jayanta Talukder has been selected as a Fall 2021 Benevolent Association Research and Creative Activity Grant recipient. His research project is titled "Reverse Migration and Occupational Choice: Evidence from COVID-induced Lockdown in India." The research aims to quantify migrant hardship as a result of the second COVID wave in 2021 in India and its effect on future migration decisions.
Economics Professors Lead New Grant on Pandemic's Affect on Disability Applications
The Social Security Administration recently funded a project on how the pandemic has affected disability applications led by UAlbany Economics Professors Pinka Chatterji and Kajal Lahiri. The project, entitled "Explaining Inter-state Differences in Disability Applications during the COVID-19 Pandemic,” is part of the NBER Research and Disability Research Center for the coming year.
Economics Alumni Launch Investment App Nationally
Two UAlbany Department of Economics alumni, Cullen Breen and Ben Buchanan, officially launched a financial management platform StackHabit in October 2021. StackHabit is an SEC Registered Investment Advisor that automatically manages investment portfolios. Breen and Buchanan founded Dutch Asset Corporation (2014) and StackHabit (2021) together after graduation.

Lahiri Leads 52 from the UAlbany Community Honored for Service Milestones
Fifty-two UAlbany employees are being honored this year for their longtime service, and Distinguished Professor Kajal Lahiri of Economics, with the longest term of all, lists the many reasons he stayed.
Professor Chen receives Drescher Award
Professor Cuicui Chen has been selected as a recipient of the 2022 Dr. Nuala McGann Drescher Diversity and Inclusion Leave Program. The program aims to enhance opportunities for researchers in their early career. In addition, the program also seeks to promote diversity, inclusion and equal opportunity.
