A native of Germany, Emeritus Professor Hans Pohlsander is the author of Helena: Empress and Saint (Chicago: Aries, 1995) and National Monuments and Nationalism in 19th Century Germany (Bern: Peter Lang, 2008).

Pohlsander was first appointed to the UAlbany faculty in 1962 and was granted emeritus status in 1995. He served as Department of Classics chairperson from 1972-1978.

He received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
