First-Year Student Orientation

Welcome First-Year Students!

First-Year Orientation is a two-phase program designed to support your transition to UAlbany: Connection Days and Welcome Week Orientation.

Connection Day

Connection Day is a one-day, in-person program offered in July. The program will include connection with your Orientation Leader and peers, meeting your academic advisor, and a campus tour. Family members and supporters are welcome to join us on campus for a Family Member Connection Day program.

Connection Days programs have ended. If you were not able to attend a Connection Day and have not yet registered for classes, please visit your Welcome To-Do List and complete the Orientation Form. Once you complete the form, you will hear from an academic advisor in 3-5 business days.

Welcome Week Orientation

First-Year Welcome Week Orientation is a three-day program for all first-year students on Wednesday, August 17th - Friday, August 19th. You will engage in a variety of workshops with your peers. A current UAlbany student will serve as your Welcome Leader and will guide you throughout the Orientation program.

Your Welcome experience begins on Tuesday, August 16 with a Meeting with your Resident Assistant and the Welcome Candlelighting Ceremony. Please check your email to find your Orientation group and check in location. See below for your schedule.

First-Year Welcome Week Orientation Schedules:

You will receive a schedule with exact locations and your Welcome Leader on Wednesday morning.

Registering for Classes

When you register for Connection Day, you will complete the Course Request Questionnaire, answering questions about your academic and career interests. Upon submitting the form, it will be sent to the Academic Support Center where your assigned Academic Advisor will review your information as they create your schedule. Once your schedule is finished, your advisor will reach out to discuss your schedule and interests, as well as address any questions or concerns. In addition, you will have the opportunity to meet with your advisor during Orientation to discuss your academic plan further.
