UAlbany to Host the 5th Northeast Analysis Network Conference on September 16 and 17
The conference will consist of two one-hour lectures by Sijue Wu. The first lecture will be of an expository nature. Other participants are also invited to give shorter talks. The conference will start at 9:30AM on Friday and will end no later than 4PM on Saturday. Further, there will be an outreach workshop held during the lunchtime of September 17 on the topic of tips and strategies for successful mathematics grant writing. There will also be a conference dinner held on the evening of September 16. Eureka! Program Powers Girls to Succeed in STEM Fields
A nationally recognized endeavor by Girls Inc. that provides hands-on opportunities in STEM, the Capital Region Girls Inc. Eureka! program has 57 girls from a number of different schools attending UAlbany this summer to learn about atmospheric and environmental sciences, mathematics and statistics, physics, psychology, women’s studies, geography, planning, and sustainability, chemistry, ChoreoPhysics and biology.
Professor Penghang Yin Wins Three-Year NSF Grant
Professor Penghang Yin won a three-year NSF grant for his project “Algorithms and Theory for Compressing Deep Neural Networks.” Congrats to Professor Yin!

Three Mathematics & Statistics Professors Awarded President's Awards for Excellence
Three Mathematics & Statistics professors have been awarded President's Awards for Excellence for 2022. Professor Karin Reinhold received the President's Award for Excellence in Academic Service, and Professors Antun Milas and Yiming Ying received the President's Award for Excellence in Research and Creative Activities. UAlbany to Host Conference for 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Association for Women in Mathematics
UAlbany Professors Seth Chaiken, Cristian Lenart, Antun Milas, Karin Reinhold, and Changlong Zhong are co-organizing the Northeast Women in Algebra and Combinatorics 50th Anniversary Conference for the Association for Women in Mathematics (NEWAC50AWM). There will be a virtual component from November 20-21, 2021 and an in-person component from April 29th to May 1, 2022.
Machine Learning Group Lands Grant on Privacy and Artificial Intelligence
Math and Statistics Professor Yiming Ying along with two other machine learning Math faculty, Yunlong Feng and Penghang Yin, have been named PI and co-PIs on a recent grant from the SUNY-IBM AI Research Alliance to develop "FRAPP: Fair, Robust, And Privacy-Preserving Machine Learning Algorithms." Congrats to Professors Feng, Yin and Ying!
Professor Ying Awarded Two NSF Grants in Machine Learning
In 2021 alone, Math and Statistics Professor Yiming Ying has been awarded two grants from the NSF: One from the NSF's program on computational mathematics for "New Studies of Learning with Stochastic Convex Optimization" (https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=2110836) and the second grant is through the NSF's program on robust intelligence for "Robust Deep Learning with Big Imbalanced Data" (https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=2110546). Congrats to Professor Ying!

Girls Inc. Eureka! Imparts Knowledge with Fun to Young STEM Students
For the fourth straight summer, the College of Arts & Sciences hosts Girls Inc. Eureka! program, with faculty from seven UAlbany departments imparting a love of STEM subjects to girls from the Capital Region.
