Liberty Partnerships Rising Stars Program (LPRSP)

About Us

Teacher helping student in class

The Liberty Partnerships Rising Stars Program (LPRSP) at the University at Albany supports the academic, career, social and emotional needs of youth and encourages them to complete their secondary education.

LPRSP collaborates with the City School District of Albany (CSDA), community-based organizations and local businesses to promote academic achievement, leadership, socio-emotional well-being and civic engagement among youth.

The program serves youth in grades six through 12 within the CSDA and provides in-school services at Albany High School, North Albany Middle School, William S. Hackett Middle School, and Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School.

Since it was established in 1992, LPRSP has grown to currently serve 300 students.

What We Do

The Liberty Partnerships Rising Stars Program (LPRSP) encourages youth in grades six through 12 to achieve academic and personal excellence by promoting strong relationships, inspiring positive self-esteem and empowering students to become tomorrow’s leaders.

The program uses a holistic and collaborative approach by partnering with the City School District of Albany (CSDA), community-based organizations, local businesses, UAlbany’s schools, departments and offices, and students’ teachers and families.

Year-round Services

LPRSP staff, student interns and volunteers provide students with various year-round services, including:

  • Case management and social emotional learning
  • Academic enrichment and tutoring
  • Mentoring
  • Workforce development
  • Leadership development
  • College and career preparation

While participating in LPRSP, youth explore college and career pathways, engage in social and emotional learning, and participate in enrichment activities to develop as future leaders.

Summer Programs

Both summer programs include cultural enrichment field trips, college visits, meals and an end-of-summer celebration — all at no cost to youth or families.

Summer Leadership Academy

LPRSP works with the City of Albany’s Department of Youth and Workforce Services to provide high school youth with a paid enrichment program during a five-week Summer Leadership Academy (SLA).

SLA emphasizes professional and career development, communication skills, team building, financial literacy, and community service projects.

Middle School Sports Academy

LPRSP works with CSDA to offer a five-week Middle School Sports Academy (MSSA), a sports exposure and enrichment program.

The MSSA provides youth with the opportunity to learn about and practice a variety of sports including, but not limited to, volleyball, tennis, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, football and golf, while also engaging in enrichment and social-emotional learning activities.
