Materials Chemistry: A Bold Step
Within ETEC, brand new labs and state-of-the-art equipment are providing students with pioneering research opportunities with broad applications in semiconducting devices, cosmetic formulations, pharmaceutical compositions, and much more. Our students are training to discover solutions to modern challenges by developing and understanding novel types of materials. Current research projects include:
- Designing new polymers with new functionalities such as carbon dioxide capture and novel semiconductors with chemically adjustable electronic transport properties
- Imagining new single molecule magnets and nanoarchitectured carbon materials for electrical storage
- Exploring new crystal structures and organometallic precursors for thin film oxide electrodes in batteries
- Rediscovering ancient metallurgy so that modern chemistry can create new compositions and alloys for ever-stronger materials.
Our students will study in these new facilities on the same cutting-edge equipment found in national labs and advanced industry. From energy storage and nanomaterials to the chemistry of food and cosmetics our students will be prepared for careers in materials chemistry.
