Alumna Gladys Cruz a Local and National Leader
Albany, NY (May 31, 2022) - Gladys I. Cruz (MS CDIT '97, PhD Curriculum & Instruction '00) received several honors in the past few weeks, including election as 2022-23 president-elect of The School Superintendents Association (AASA), a Capital Region Chamber Women's Business Council 2022 Women of Excellence Award in Management, and a CASDA Excellence in District Administrative Leadership Award. She recently shared her expertise and experiences in leadership with members of the Dean's Student Leadership Council.

A School of Ed Project Looks to Improve Outcomes for Children and Youth of Color
A pilot project of the School of Education and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion set out last fall to promote improved academic outcomes for children and youth of color of color. Continuing throughout the 2021-22 year, the program also provides opportunity for leadership among people of color high school age and beyond.
Building Higher Education and Workforce Pipelines for Resettled Refugees
How can institutions of higher education help refugees transition to living and working in the United States? To what degree can universities, four-year colleges, and community colleges propel workforce development by assisting refugees with career guidance, credential assessment/recognition, continuing education, and technical training? Can educational pipelines for refugees be developed that reach back to K-12 and give refugee children access to higher education and professional career opportunities? This 90-minute roundtable discussion over Zoom will address these questions on higher education, workforce pipelines, and more. All are welcome to attend.
