Spring Break Planning and Travel Tips

Spring break is around the corner! Whether you are traveling, staying local or juggling work and classes, a little preparation can help make spring break stress free.

  • Plan transportation early and check travel schedules for delays or service changes.
  • Let roommates or landlords know if you will be away for an extended period.
  • Secure your apartment by locking doors and windows and keeping valuables out of sight.
  • Pause mail and package deliveries or ask someone to collect them.
  • Avoid posting travel plans on social media until you return.
  • Set aside time to rest and recharge so you return refreshed for the second half of the semester.

Managing Seasonal Transitions and Motivation

Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8, when clocks "spring forward" to 3 a.m.! Longer days and changing weather can impact focus and energy levels, so here are some tips that might help.

  • Adjust sleep schedules gradually as daylight increases.
  • Spend time outside when possible to boost mood and motivation.
  • Balance academic responsibilities with rest and social time.
  • Recognize signs of burnout and take action early.
  • Use campus wellness resources if motivation feels low.
  • Set short-term goals to stay on track before finals.

Managing Roommate Relationships

Living off campus often means navigating shared spaces, schedules and responsibilities, sometimes this can lead to conflict. Here are ways to better manage roommate relationships.

  • Set clear expectations around cleaning, guests and shared expenses.
  • Communicate concerns early before small issues turn into bigger conflicts.
  • Respect different routines, especially around sleep and study time.
  • Use shared calendars or chore charts to stay organized.
  • Practice compromise and be open to feedback.
  • Reach out for mediation support if conflicts become difficult to manage.
