As demand for mental health care outpaces access to human providers, millions are turning to AI chatbots to get the support they need. Most of these tools were not designed for mental health support, and safety and equity standards are only beginning to take shape. These issues took center stage at the Global Center for AI in Mental Health’s fourth annual summit held in September at the SUNY Global Center in New York City.

David Zimmerman, now senior executive vice president and chief legal officer of the National Hockey League, returned to UAlbany on Friday, Oct. 2, to deliver the ninth annual Massry Lecture at the Massry School of Business, reflecting on the education, relationships and career guidance that helped shape the path he has followed since graduating in 1982.

Through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program, Biswas will work in Colombia exploring an alternative method of evaluating microentrepreneurs who may be strong business leaders, but lack the financial records, credit history or collateral that financial institutions traditionally require to secure a loan.

Since joining the University at Albany in 1978, Shawky has worn nearly every hat imaginable within the Massry School of Business. He served as professor, department chair, founding director of the Center for Institutional Investment Management (CIIM), associate dean and interim dean. Along the way, he helped build nationally recognized programs, expanded opportunities for experiential learning and earned recognition as one of the world's most respected finance scholars.

Students, University leaders and campus partners gathered Thursday to celebrate the grand opening of Saxbys in the Massry School of Business. The cafe is part of the Saxbys Experiential Learning Platform, which gives undergraduates hands-on responsibility for operating a real business.

The University at Albany welcomed 32 new tenure-track faculty members this fall. The professors will present one-minute, one-slide presentations at the University’s annual Pecha Kucha to be held on Oct. 5. The University also welcomed 48 non-tenure-track faculty.

As a high school student in Brooklyn, UAlbany Senior Winnie Ou knew she was fascinated by science and human health. This past summer, Ou took another step toward that goal in the lab of Professor of Nanoscale Science and Engineering Yubing Xie as part of UAlbany's Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP).
