Diversity and Inclusion

The Department of Sociology prioritizes promoting a diverse and inclusive environment.

The University at Albany Department of Sociology values having a diverse set of faculty, staff, and graduate and undergraduate students that is inclusive of persons of all colors, nationalities, sexual orientations, religions, and all other backgrounds.

Diversity and Inclusion Committee

The Department’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee organizes, coordinates, and supports efforts across the department to create a safe and inclusive space for all members and to increase racial and ethnic diversity in our faculty and graduate program. The Committee works with other departmental committees, departmental leadership, the UAlbany Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and the College of Arts and Sciences to address departmental needs. The group is specifically focused on providing support for departmental-level changes in hiring, recruitment, admissions, teaching, and research through panels, brown bags, expert consultations, and distributing resources. The Committee’s work is documented in a monthly newsletter update.

The Sociology Department’s Diversity and Inclusion committee is currently chaired by Professor Angie Chung.
