(June 18, 2019) — When the student content editor for a publication that assesses university excellence around the world contacted UAlbany for a political science student who could write a guide to the 2020 Presidential candidates, Dean and Professor R. Karl Rethemeyer of Rockefeller College had a ready choice in mind.

Excellence Rewarded
J. Ramon Gil-Garcia received the University at Albany’s President’s Award for Excellence in Research and Creative Activities. Dr. Gil-Garcia is an associate professor in the Department of Public Administration and Policy and the research director of the CTG UAlbany.

Student Scholars and Leaders
SUNY Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson presented 210 SUNY students from across the state with the 2019 Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. UAlbany had nine honorees, including four exceptional scholars from Rockefeller College: Alondra Berroa, Nicholas Gonzalez, Teniola Olafuyi, and Subha Tasnim.

Teacher Turnover and the Disruption of Teacher Staffing
Assistant Professor Lucy Sorenson co-authored an article for the Brookings Institution that highlights concerns related to the turnover of middle school teachers, including the financial costs on schools and districts and the effects on student achievement.
Rockefeller Rises In National Rankings
Improving two places, Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy at the University at Albany has once again been recognized among the nation’s top graduate programs for public affairs by U.S. News & World Report.
