Netherlands Institute for Public Safety and U.S. Department of Homeland Security Leaders Discuss New Partnerships with CEHC
ALBANY, N.Y. (November 1, 2023) – The Netherlands Institute for Public Safety and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security recently visited UAlbany's ETEC research & development complex to discuss future partnership opportunities with the College of Emergency of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity (CEHC).
The visit lasted for two days, featuring a tour of the ETEC building, home of CEHC's laboratories, and much of the University's signature research including climate science, emergency preparedness, AI research, and cybersecurity.
Day one was focused on AI, with discussions about research related to emerging tech at CEHC, as well as alerts, warnings, and communications integration and an overview of the Open Source Intelligence Lab. Day two featured discussions on emergency management research, drone research, information sharing and decision making, as well as red teaming and methodological approaches.

"Our partnership with the Netherland Institute for Public Safety and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will open more doors of opportunities for our students and our faculty," said CEHC Dean Robert Griffin. "We are looking forward to this new opportunity with NIPV and DHS as we look to leverage combined strengths to address some of the most pressing issues facing society today."
The visit was the start to a new partnership between CEHC and the Netherlands Institute for Public Safety to work on research and educational opportunities for faculty and students.
Earlier this year, CEHC hosted a similar visit with leaders of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and DHS. CEHC launched a new partnership with PNNL in 2022 which has opened new avenues for joint scientific exploration amongst faculty, researchers and students. The partnership offers opportunities to collaborate, share resources and infrastructure.
