On-campus Events

Fall Energy: September is heavy on “get involved” events for clubs, study abroad and career development, while October shifts into sports, academics and cultural events.

Visit the University Events Calendar for more on-campus events.

Emergency Contact Campus Residence Registry

Keep an eye on your inbox: UAlbany will be sending you a short Emergency Contact & Residence Registry form.

This form helps the University stay connected with you and provide quick, accurate support if an emergency ever arises. When filling it out, please use the address where you’re living during the semester (not your permanent home address, unless that’s where you’ll be while classes are in session).

All off-campus students are required to complete this form, and you’ll receive reminder emails until it’s submitted.

Moving In Tips

Starting off-campus life? Here are a few quick reminders to make your space feel like home and keep things stress-free:

  • Shop & Save: Use thrift stores, garage sales and online marketplaces for affordable home goods — just meet sellers in safe, public spots.
  • Plan Ahead: Buy reusable essentials, look for sales and arrange storage early for summer move-outs.
  • Protect Your Space: Read your lease carefully, do a move-in photo walkthrough and avoid damage that risks your deposit.
  • Be Prepared: Stock up on basics like cleaning supplies, lighting, extension cords and a tool kit.
  • Settle In: Introduce yourself to neighbors for a smoother experience.

Financial Wellness Tips

Living off campus often means new expenses. Here’s how to keep your wallet (and sanity) balanced:

  • Budget Smart: Track income (jobs, aid and scholarships) and expenses. Separate essentials from non-essentials.
  • Save on Living Costs: Share housing, plan meals, shop smart and look for student discounts.
  • Cut Big Expenses: Use public transit or bike, rent or buy used textbooks, and conserve utilities.
  • Plan Ahead: Build an emergency fund, use credit wisely and understand your insurance coverage.
  • Keep Growing: Explore financial aid, attend money workshops and adjust your plan as goals change.
