Theatre Program Special Event
Authors Theatre: INTERSTATE by Amina Henry

Join us for a live Zoom reading of a funny and irreverent new play, followed by a conversation with the playwright. INTERSTATE follows the cross-country drive of 40-something flight attendant named Red and her two kids, who are definitely too old to be taking a vacation with their mother. The reading will be directed by Portia Krieger, and the cast will feature students working alongside a professional cast, including the Theatre Program’s award-winning alumna Danielle Skraastad.

Monday, March 22 at 7:30pm

The rehearsal is open to UAlbany students observers: Monday, March 22 @ 11:30am–3:30pm

There will also be a pre-show conversation, available March 22 on YouTube, with playwright Amina Henry, actor Danielle Skraastad, and Maggie Macinelli-Cahill, Producing Artistic Director of Capital Repertory Theatre.

FRESH ACTS: A Festival of New Plays

Artistic Director: Kate Walat

Zoom in to experience works written, directed, and performed entirely by students, as the Theatre Program’s annual festival of play readings is held online this spring. This year’s festival will also feature excerpts from solo pieces, read by their authors, for the Friday afternoon performance. Be a part of the dynamic process of theatre being made, up close and on your screen! Read the Albany Times Union article about the show.

The UAlbany Theatre Program productions serve as learning labs for our students. Due to COVID-19, the Theatre Program's fall productions (and possibly spring productions) will be online, virtual performances, provided free of charge. This means the program will not have any box office income this year, which normally helps cover a large part of our production costs. Please consider making a gift to the program.

As a rise in digital theatre intersects with a contentious presidential election year, the Lover & Lunatics audience will be called upon to vote and serve us in our creative journey.  In an episodic, Shakespearean “choose your own adventure,” the audience members will become active participants - voting on design and directorial choices to illustrate the power of our collective voice.
