Language tables and clubs meet regularly during the academic year (suspended over breaks and summer) to speak the language in informal settings and enjoy time with friends.
LLC Seminars provide a variety of academic topics engaging LLC, the university and the community.
Our annual Living in Languages Conference (register here for 4/1/26-4/2/26) focuses on issues of “translation” in a literal, but also an expanded sense, from questions of reading and ideology to translation understood as exile, displacement geographical and linguistic, and translation in our era of Twitter/X consciousness, warring media bubbles, and the screen as public space (journal website, scholars archive).
Every spring our Mother Language Day event celebrates our many languages and cultures.
French Diplôme de français professionnel (DFP) - UAlbany is a certified testing site offering the French DFP Affaires, an internationally recognized certification of competence in Business French from the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The DFP (level) A2 exam is open to the public and offered every May (we do not currently administer the TEF exam). Business French (AFRE270) is offered each spring to help prepare for the exam. French faculty from other institutions are welcome to coordinate opportunities for their students to take the course and/or the exam. Questions? UAlbany Celebrates College Tour, Campus Ballroom Reopening
UAlbany rolled out the purple carpet Thursday night for the world premiere of its episode of "The College Tour" and the grand reopening of the newly renovated Campus Center Ballroom. Students, faculty, staff and alumni filled the refreshed space — now complete with upgraded AV technology and a modern look — for a Hollywood-style celebration that included themed mocktails, a photo booth and a panel discussion with student stars from the episode.
Great Danes Honored as America East Presidential Scholars
Eleven UAlbany graduating seniors were named America East Presidential Scholars. The award recognizes student-athletes who earned a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher and earned their undergraduate degree in 2024-25.
