Russian invasion of Ukraine
As of the February 24 Russian invasion of Ukraine, war has returned to the region of Europe named “the Bloodlands” in a study by historian Timothy Snyder. The Russian regime has flooded the Russophone and Anglophone media with pro-Kremlin propaganda, using both the Kremlin’s media outlet RT and human and automated trolls and bots, regarding its grievances and the aims of its “special operation.” Please seek out informed sources as you come to terms with the facts and implications of this turning point in Europe’s post-World War II history. Google for opinions and accounts from commentators who have been closely observing the Putin regime: Timothy Snyder himself, the historians of Ukraine Serhii Plokhii and Serhy Yekelchyk, former ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul, Anne Applebaum, Julia Davis at The Daily Beast, Julie Ioffe, Andrea Chalupa, Mark Galeotti, Masha Gessen, the many English interviews and testimony by Vladimir Milov and Vladimir Kara-Murza, Jr. There are many others.
Russian remains one of the very richest languages in the Indo-European cultural sphere, and a critical language in terms of policy and international relations.

Graduate Students Bring a Living in Languages Journal to Life
Visit our newly launched Living in Languages Journal at https://scholarsarchive.library.albany.edu/liljournal/, an online, open access, peer-reviewed journal devoted to Translation Studies! This is a multilingual and interdisciplinary publication (a collaboration between UAlbany's English and the Languages, Literatures and Cultures Departments) where translation is understood without delineation: traversing borders, disciplines, cultures, and mediums. Congratulations to the Editorial Board of doctoral students from ENG and LLC! Our own Nerisha Padilla Cruz (SPN) is one of the editors!
