2 Steps to a Safe and Secure Account

The University requires 2-Step Login to access several campus IT services. Also known as two-factor or multifactor authentication, the use of a one-time code along with your login credentials is the current standard for accessing secure information. In today's security environment, using NetIDs and passwords alone is not enough to protect unauthorized access to University accounts.

2-Step Login is currently required to access UAlbany Mail and PeopleSoft / IAS. Beginning this summer, 2-Step Login will be used to access an increasing number of services. All members of the campus community will be enrolled in one of the following solutions:

three pairs of shoes for Microsoft 2-step loginMicrosoft 2-Step Login for Students

gold colored mens shoes and purple colored womens shoesDuo 2-Step Login for Faculty/Staff

2-Step Login

1. Enter your credentials (email address or NetID and Password)
2. Verify your identity via the one-time code

Enrollment and Setup

After ITS enrolls you, follow the prompts at your next login to setup 2-Step Login. You will need to identify the device on which to receive the one-time code; then, follow the prompts to send a Quick Response (QR) code, or copy and paste a specified URL and numeric code, to confirm the use of your designated device.

Second Step Recommendations

ITS strongly recommends the use of an authentication app with push notifications. This requires the installation of the Microsoft Authenticator or Duo app from the Apple Store or Google Play. This is currently the most secure option for completing the 2-Step Login process.
