Alan Wagner

Dr. Alan P. Wagner is Vincent O'Leary Distinguished Service Professor, Department of Educational Policy & Leadership, University at Albany, and Senior Fellow, Rockefeller Institute of Government, State University of New York.

An economist with broad interests in education policy in the U.S. and abroad, Wagner’s most recent work concerns higher education and workforce development. Professor Wagner previously held a senior position in the Directorate for Education, Employment, Labor and Social Affairs at the Paris-based Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and was on the faculty at Purdue University.

He is author or co-author of articles in Economics of Education Review, European Journal of Education, Higher Education: Handbook of Theory and Research, Higher Education Management, International Encyclopedia of Education, Journal of Human Resources, and Lavoro e relazioni industriali, entries in a number of edited books, and commissioned reports.

Wagner currently serves on the boards of the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems (current chair) and the Greater Capital Region Principals’ Center. He received his A.B. from the University of Michigan and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, all in economics.
