As warmer weather arrives, Earth Day approaches, and finals begin to come into focus, off-campus students are balancing academics, housing responsibilities, and spring plans. Celebrating Earth Day While Living Off-campus

Earth Day is a great opportunity to make small changes that positively impact the environment!

  • Reduce energy use by turning off lights and unplugging electronics when not in use.

  • Recycle correctly and learn your building’s recycling guidelines.

  • Choose reusable bags, water bottles, and containers whenever possible.

  • Walk, bike, or use public transportation instead of driving when you can.

  • Participate in campus or community cleanups and sustainability events.

  • Support local businesses and farmers markets that prioritize sustainable practices.

Managing Stress as Finals Approach

With finals on the horizon, it is important to prioritize both academic success and well-being. 

  • Create a realistic study schedule that includes breaks. 

  • Use campus study spaces and extended library hours. 

  • Stay consistent with sleep, meals, and hydration. 

  • Reach out to professors or advisors if you need support. 

  • Take advantage of Campus Recreation or wellness activities to relieve stress. 

  • Use Counseling and Psychological Services if stress feels overwhelming.

Spring Cleaning and Apartment Organization

As winter winds down, April is the perfect time to reset your space. 

  • Create a simple cleaning schedule for shared spaces with roommates. 

  • Wash bedding, rugs, and curtains to remove winter buildup. 

  • Clean out the fridge and pantry to avoid food waste. 

  • Check for maintenance issues that may have gone unnoticed during winter. 

  • Restock essentials like cleaning supplies and air filters. 

  • Use this time to prepare for eventual move-out expectations.

Building Credit as a Student Living Off-campus

Start your journey to financial independence! Off-campus living can be a great opportunity to start building financial independence. 

  • Pay rent and utilities on time to establish responsible habits. 

  • Consider using a secured credit card for small purchases. 

  • Keep credit card balances low and pay them off each month. 

  • Avoid opening multiple credit accounts at once. 

  • Monitor your credit report regularly to track progress.
