What are SNAP & WIC Benefits? Am I eligible?
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is a federal program that provides eligible citizens, permanent residents and some foreign nationals with specific statuses with monthly cash assistance in the form of an benefits card that works like a credit card at grocery stores. Only certain food items can be purchased using this benefit.
Determining SNAP eligibility can be complicated, so we provide resources to assist you in determining whether you meet the criteria to get this important benefit:
- View student eligibility rules for SNAP.
- Fill out a short form that will help you assess your SNAP eligibility.
- NYS Online SNAP Application: This option is not recommended due to the complexity of the application process. If you attempt and have difficulty, you can get assistance from Legal Aid, please email Cherise Bollers at [email protected] if you live in Albany County.
- If you do not reside in Albany County, you can access help with determining your eligibility and with applying for SNAP. Just enter your zip code or county and get the phone number and email address of a representative who can assist you.
- If you need more help submitting your form:
- Print out an eligibility form or pick one up from the Dean of Students Office (Campus Center 137) or the Supplemental Support Services Office (Campus Center 332), across from the Purple Pantry.
- Write your name, email address and phone number in the upper right corner of the form.
- Email your eligibility form to Ms. Bollers yourself, drop it off at the Dean of Students Office or drop it off at Campus Center 332 (can be slid under the door after hours).
- If dropped off, we will email the form on your behalf and Ms. Bollers will reach out with application assistance to those who meet the eligibility criteria.
