Valentine’s Season is upon us! While many of you are probably treating the holiday just like any other day, some of you are probably looking for ways to express your love in a manner that isn’t repetitive of custom Valentine’s traditions.

If there’s one thing I understand about love, it’s that clear communication is essential for any relationship to progress and remain healthy.

Now I may not be a relationship expert or anything, but I certainly know enough to say that a bouquet of flowers accompanied with conversation hearts that don’t taste like anything is not the most creative way to show your partner some sincere appreciation.

With that being said, if you’re looking for unique alternatives on how to communicate your love this Valentine’s season, look no further than the 5 ideas below.

5 Ways to Communicate Your Love

1. Scrapbooking!

Scrapbooking is the perfect way of highlighting the memories that mean the most to you and your significant other.

With an empty notebook, colored markers, and some stickers, fill up the pages in your custom scrapbook with photographs, quotes, and other romantic doodles.

A little colored construction paper could be used to decorate the cover. You can even choose to hide gifts like concert tickets and gift cards in the pages. A custom scrapbook is sure to communicate “I Love You” in more ways than one.

2. Pre-Scheduled Emails

Take the time to craft up some messages that cheer up your significant other by sending pre-planned emails that will deliver to their inboxes throughout the day.

It’s a great way to remind them you’re thinking about them even while they may be stuck to their computers finishing that assignment that’s been stressing them out.

Just imagine the expression on their face when they receive that “Thinking About You” notification while in lecture. How adorable!

3. Make a Playlist!

What better way to communicate to someone that you care about than curating a custom playlist filled with songs that remind you of them? I think a lot of us rely on music to get through our daily life.

So, handpicking tunes by your partner’s favorite artists or by artists that are unfamiliar to them would really be worth your while.

From pop-rock band Bee Gees to the piano keys of Alicia Keys, there are many songs to select from.

If words and art aren’t your thing, this is the option for you!

4. “Open When…” Cards

Take old-fashioned letter writing to an entirely new level by writing specific letters for specific circumstances.

Similar to pre-scheduled emails, these letters will give your partner the chance to open handwritten messages at times when they need to receive the message most.

For instance, make a list of the things you’re grateful for in regards to them and seal it with a “Open When You’re Feeling Unappreciated”.

This is one of those timeless ideas that are both very romantic and versatile.

5. Get Creative at the Pottery Place

There are also tons of opportunities to engage in romantic expression off campus!

Only a brisk 20-minute walk from the Uptown Campus, the Pottery Place is nestled right in the middle of Stuyvesant Plaza.

Take your partner to paint and decorate from the plethora of pre-made pottery options available on their shelves.

After taking the afternoon mixing colors and painting your heart away, grab a bite to eat next door at Blaze Pizza!

Now, it's your turn to tell us! Do you plan on incorporating any of these ideas into your Valentine’s Day plans? How are you going to communicate love to your S.O.?
