UAlbany students developed wearable haptic devices that provide navigation assistance to the visually impaired as part of the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering’s 10-week Summer Undergraduate Research Program.

The collaboration comes as the government of India is ramping up the country’s domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity through the India Semiconductor Mission, potentially doubling the sector’s economic output by 2030, and as UAlbany seeks to expand the global reach of its high-tech workforce training programs.

Alfred Navokhi Apaji spent the summer working on wastewater treatment and energy production solutions that he can eventually take home to his small town of Wukari in Nigeria, where the lack of regular electricity, clean water and waste disposal leads to frequent illness and missed school.
