Apply for Academic Year Housing

Rising upperclassmen and graduate students who are interested in 2022-2023 Academic Year housing but who have not yet selected housing must immediately submit a housing application and then select a room on Liberty Terrace, using the Housing Portal

You may also place yourself on the Empire Commons waitlist or the Dutch and Colonial Quads waitlist, using the Housing Portal.

Step 1: Pay Your Housing Deposit

Continuing students are required to pay a housing deposit before their assigned housing selection date and time.

The $125 deposit can be paid on E-Pay. After you log in, select “Deposits,” choose the upcoming semester and click “Housing Deposits.”

The deposit will be credited toward your housing charges.

To ensure that you will have a seamless experience when selecting your housing option please make sure you have submitted the required MMR immunization and COVID-19 compliance documents

If you want to cancel your housing after signing up, send a completed Housing Cancellation Form to [email protected]. Your 2022-2023 housing deposit is only refundable if you cancel your housing by April 1, 2022.

Step 2: Complete Your Housing Application

The 2022-2023 Housing Application for continuing students opens February 1, 2022. You can access the housing application via the Housing Portal.

If you are currently enrolled at UAlbany but are studying abroad or living off campus, you can return to on-campus housing. Please contact [email protected] to request your housing application be activated.

Applying for Housing with Roommates and/or Suitemates

If you know who you want to live with, be sure to list your roommates/suitemates’ NetIDs and last names on your housing application. Have them list your NetID and last name on their application(s).

If you are looking for roommates or suitemates, use the free matching tool Roomsurf. UAlbany’s code is UA1844. We also suggest students join their class year’s official Facebook group.

Step 3: View Your Housing Selection Date & Time

Housing selection dates and times will be available on the Housing Portal’s “My Home” page once you’ve completed your housing application.

Your housing selection date and time is when you’ll return to the Housing Portal to select your room. It is based on your class year. (If you believe your assigned date and time is incorrect, please contact [email protected].)

If your assigned date and time have passed, you can sign up for housing any time until your housing sign-up period ends.

However, since housing is available on a first come, first served basis, we recommend making your housing selection during your assigned date and time or as soon after as possible.

If you know who you want to live with, the student with the earliest housing selection date and time should select housing for your group. The other students will be asked to confirm the selection in the Housing Portal

Step 4: Select Your Housing

At your assigned date and time, log into the Housing Portal to select your housing.

Selecting Housing with Roommates and/or Suitemates

If you know who you want to live with, the student with the earliest housing selection date and time should select housing for your group. The other students will be asked to confirm the selection in the Housing Portal.

If your suitemates are assigned to the wrong bedrooms, each student who wants to switch must send an email to [email protected].

If you cannot find a room, suite or apartment with enough vacancies to accommodate your group, you must sign up for housing separately during your individual selection dates and times.

If you cannot select a room, suite or apartment, but it is listed as vacant, then that space is unavailable. It is only available to students of another gender, students who need an accessible apartment or Residential Life staff. Please select an available room, suite or apartment.

Note: Paine Hall and Zenger Hall on Colonial Quad will be closed for renovation beginning Fall 2022. These residence halls are scheduled to reopen in Fall 2024.

Housing Sign-up Dates for 2022-2023 Academic Year

The Special Interest Housing Sign-up period is February 22, 2022. Please see below for detailed information about Special Interest Housing.

The General Housing Sign-up Period is February 23 to 25, 2022.

Step 5: Submit Your License Understanding Form

Students who selected an Empire Commons apartment were required to submit their License Understanding Form by March 11, 2022.

Students who selected a room in any other housing location should skip this step.

After you complete these steps, your housing assignment will be listed on the Housing Portal’s “My Home” page. If your housing assignment is not listed, you will need to try again.

If you’re not satisfied with your housing assignment, complete the wait list application in the Housing Portal.

Special Interest Housing Information

Honors College Housing

All Honors College students have the option of living in honors housing each year they attend UAlbany.

Honors College juniors and seniors can sign up for housing in the G1 and G2 buildings in Empire Commons during the Special Interest Housing Sign-up period.

Note: Your roommate(s) and/or suitemate(s) must also be Honors College students if you choose to live in honors housing.

Gender-Inclusive Housing

Since single-gender housing may not be appropriate or comfortable for all students, a limited number of gender-inclusive rooms are available in our residence halls and apartments.

Students who sign up for Gender-Inclusive Housing can select roommates and suitemates from across the gender spectrum.

You must request to live in Gender-Inclusive Housing on the Comment page of the Housing Application.

Then, you’ll select your room and roommates/suitemates during the Special Interest Housing Sign-up period. (If you don’t select a roommate/suitemate, other students who also applied for Gender-Inclusive Housing may be assigned to your space.)

Please contact Assistant Director for Community Development Jameelee Ford at [email protected] with any questions regarding Gender-Inclusive Housing.

Housing Accommodations

Students who require housing accommodations must have their medical need(s) documented by Disability Access and Inclusion Student Services. Documentation must be renewed each year before the Special Interest Housing Sign-up period.

Students with housing accommodations can live with any roommate(s) and/or suitemate(s).

Recess Housing

Empire Commons, Liberty Terrace, and Freedom Apartments do not close during University recesses (Thanksgiving Break, Winter Session and Spring Break), so residents automatically have access to their apartments during the breaks and do not need to apply for recess housing
