Bike Shares 

Current students and employees have free access to the regular CDPHP Cycle bikes.

To register for the bike-share program, visit the CDPHP Cycle! website and register using your UAlbany email address. Once your email address is verified, use the code SunyCycle to access special membership.

Four bike‑share hubs are located across UAlbany’s campuses, but members can use any location in the Capital Region.

Uptown Campus

  • Collins Circle, Campus Center, Empire Commons

Downtown Campus

  • Intersection of Western Avenue and North Lake Avenue 

 

Register Your Personal Bicycle or Electric Micromobility Device (EMMD)

Register your personal bike or EMMD for free by visiting Parking & Mass Transit Services.

Registration helps support a safer, more organized campus environment, assist University Police identify ownership, and increases the likelihood of recovery if your property is lost.

 

E-Bikes, E-Scooters & Other Electric Micromobility Devices

The University supports e-mobility as a sustainable transportation option and encourages its safe use and storage in accordance with University policies and New York Vehicle and Traffic Law.

EMMD Operating Requirements

An EMMD is a personal electric transportation device, including e-scooters, e-bikes, hoverboards, electric skateboards, Segways, electric unicycles and similar battery-powered devices. This excludes wheelchairs or other electrically driven mobility assistance devices.

Anyone using an EMMD on UAlbany’s campus must meet these requirements:

  • EMMD operators must follow all traffic laws, signals and campus signage.
  • The maximum operating speed on campus is 15 miles per hour.
  • EMMDs must operate on roadways or designated areas whenever possible and where permitted.
  • Operating EMMDs inside buildings, in controlled spaces and on restricted pedestrian areas (including Academic Podium zones) is strictly prohibited.

  • Students and employees are encouraged to register their EMMD.

     

EMMD Storage & Charging
  • Charging and storing EMMDs inside any campus building is strictly prohibited.
  • EMMDs may only be parked in designated bike racks or approved parking zones.
  • Do not block entrances, accessible pathways, or emergency routes.
  • Do not use damaged batteries or extension cords to charge an EMMD.
  • Charging on campus is limited to EMMDs that have safe or time-limited charging capability. 
EMMD Compliance & Risk Management
  • Electric bikes must have a permanent manufacturer’s label showing the e-bike class, maximum assisted speed and motor wattage.
  • Users assume all risks associated with operating and storing EMMDs on campus.
  • Violations of policy may result in warnings, fines, device impoundment and student conduct action, in accordance with the University Community Rights & Responsibilities’ Parking and Mass Transit Services section.
