About
Dr. Valverde is an associate professor in the School of Education's Department of Educational Policy & Leadership at the University at Albany. He previously served as Dean and Vice Provost of the Center for International Education and Global Strategy (CIEGS).
Dr. Valverde conducts international research on the politics and political economy of educational quality. He has studied testing, curriculum and standards policy, large scale international tests and STEM education in Latin America, the US and globally.
He is past-president of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) and a Fulbright Senior Specialist. He has worked as advisor, policy analyst and grant recipient with the World Bank, the OECD, the United Nations, the USAID, universities, think tanks, and ministries of education throughout the Americas. He continues this work, especially for national governments and universities in Latin America such as the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and others.
For his extensive international work, he is the recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Academic Service.
