About

Dr. Edward Danso Ansong is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Cybersecurity at the University at Albany, bringing with him over 17 years of teaching, research, and professional experience in cybersecurity and computer science. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (2018), a Master of Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering (2008) from Karunya University (Karunya Institute of Technology), Tamil Nadu- India, and a BSc in Computer Science (2006) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a participant in US department of Homeland Security Cyber Security Training.

Dr. Ansong has served as a Digital Applications Specialist for a $200 million World Bank–funded digital transformation project for the Government of Ghana, supporting national digitalization efforts. He was also an Innovation Specialist on a $25 million USAID Resilient Africa Network (RAN) project, and a cybersecurity trainer for the Ghana Police, the Army, and building capacity in digital crime detection and cyber defense around the world. His expertise is widely sought after as a consultant in Cybersecurity and several projects, keynote speaker, external examiner across several institutions in Africa.

In academia, he has held leadership positions including Dean of Faculty, Head of Department, and Head of Cybersecurity Labs at premier Ghanaian universities. He has supervised numerous Master’s and PhD research students and served as a program advisor and curriculum developer for several universities. His professional certifications include being an IBM Digital Skills Trainer, a certified Oracle Trainer in SQL and Java, and a certified Data Center Developer and Engineer among others.

Dr. Ansong has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications in areas including operating system security, network security and cloud computing. His research blends real-world impact with academic rigor, and his work has been recognized in international journals and conferences including IEEE and ACM and other high ranking Scopus journals and also as a reviewer.

Dr. Ansong is excited to join the UAlbany community to contribute to innovative teaching, research collaboration and cybersecurity leadership.
