Advancing Cybersecurity & Cryptography Research at UAlbany

The Cybersecurity & Cryptography Lab (CCL) collaborates across disciplines to fortify cryptographic protocols, embed security awareness and safeguard data from emerging cyber threats, especially in vulnerable populations.

The CCL is directed by Dr. Kimberly Cornell and is part of the Department of Cybersecurity within the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity (CEHC) at the University at Albany.

The Cybersecurity & Cryptography Lab studies the security, privacy and resilience of emerging technologies. Our goal is to identify vulnerabilities, develop practical solutions and promote the responsible design and deployment of secure technologies.

Our research spans cybersecurity and cryptography, trustworthy AI, formal methods for security, quantum computing and post-quantum security, cyber risk and resilience and cybersecurity education. Current projects explore AI security and privacy, threats to large language models, cyber risk management, secure software systems, quantum technologies and game-based approaches to cybersecurity training and awareness.

Opportunities for Student Researchers & External Partners

The CCL offers students opportunities in research, project management, literature reviews, data analysis, penetration testing, exploring emerging technologies and coding. 

Our interdisciplinary approach serves students in Information Science, Informatics, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Emergency Management and Homeland Security and other related majors at UAlbany.

Our lab also collaborates with industry, government, public safety, and academic partners to drive impactful research and innovation. Looking ahead, we aim to expand our research into new areas and continue developing solutions to pressing cybersecurity challenges.
