The RNA Institute Celebrated at LifeSciencesNY Together ’25 for Distinguished Achievement in Research
Members of the RNA Institute gathered at the LifeSciencesNY Together ’25 meeting held at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown from November 12–13, 2025 where leaders from the biomedical and life sciences came together for presentations, networking, and awards recognizing excellence in research, innovation, education, and economic development.
At this year’s event, The RNA Institute received the 2025 Distinguished Achievement in Research Award for its leadership in RNA biology, therapeutic discovery, advanced technologies, and workforce development. Director Dr. Andrew (Andy) Berglund, Distinguished Professor of Biological Sciences delivered the acceptance speech on behalf of the Institute emphasizing the team’s cutting-edge work in RNA science and noting how the award recognizes the contributions of The RNA Institute’s scientists, staff, trainees, students, and collaborators in advancing biomedical and life sciences research, education, and technology.

This two-day event featured panel discussions on new ideas in product development, how organizations can access statewide resources, and ways to navigate today’s changing healthcare system. The event opened on November 12 with a members’ dinner and awards ceremony followed by a featured presentation from Sarah Matt, MD, MBA, author of The Borderless Healthcare Revolution. The program continued Thursday, November 13 with a keynote address by Ankur Kalra, MD founder of MakeADent.org and host of the award-winning cardiology podcast Parallax.
The University at Albany, College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Biological Sciences congratulate Dr. Berglund and entire RNA Institute team on this well-deserved honor and celebrate their continued success in advancing research excellence, innovation, and education.
