About
Dr Frank D. Peris is a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University at Albany’s College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity (CEHC). Dr. Peris is assigned to both Maker Space and the Drone & Robotics Labs. He joined the informatics faculty at Albany in 2022.
Dr. Peris has been an active-duty police officer for 16 years and still maintains this position. Within this time frame he has held several different roles including field training officer, general topics instructor, drug recognition expert, crisis intervention officer and peer support team member. For the past 7 years Dr. Peris has been assigned to the unmanned aerial systems unit and specializes in operating commercial drones/robotics. He holds a 107C pilots license and has successfully piloted over 100 law enforcement-based drone missions ranging in diversity and complexity. Aside from his time as a police officer, Dr. Peris has been a subject matter expert for the New York Division of Homeland Security teaching emergency vehicle and drone operator courses since 2019.
Dr. Peris acquired his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Brockport, a MBA/MPA from the University of Phoenix, and a PHD in criminal justice from Liberty University. His primary focus of research studies has been directed toward officer wellness initiatives and the mental health and wellbeing of American law enforcement officers.
