Educational Policy and Leadership Certificate of Advanced Study

Program of Study (60 credits, minimum)

This program is a supplemental degree that is only available to students pursuing the Educational Policy and Leadership PhD. The student, in consultation with the faculty advisor, develops a program of study taking into account the previous preparation, area of specialization, and objectives.

Requirements include the following:

1. Pre-core requirements (9 credits):

  • Epl 600 Introduction to Organizational Leadership or Epl 700 Organizational Management and Leadership in Education (3)
  • Epl 601 Introduction to Social Analysis or Epl 701 Advanced Social Analysis (3)
  • Epl 614 Quantitative Methods in Educational Leadership (3) or an approved equivalent

2. Specialization (18 - 21 credits): Select from K-12 leadership, higher education, education policy, globalization, or student initiated specialization.

3. Support Discipline Courses (9 credits): In support disciplines such as philosophy, economics, sociology, psychology, and political science, as advised.

4. Capstone Course (3 credits):

  • Epl 780 Advanced Seminar in Educational Leadership (3) or
  • Epl 715 Research Practicum in Educational Administration and Policy Studies (3)

5. Electives (18 - 21 credits): As approved by advisor.

This program is not eligible for federal financial aid.

Please note: This program offers an internship, field experience, study abroad component, or clinical experience in the course listing as an option to fulfill course requirements. Students who have previously been convicted of a felony are advised that their prior criminal history may impede their ability to complete the requirements of certain academic programs and/or to meet licensure requirements for certain professions.
