Aib 620 Generative Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models (3)

Large language models (LLMs) have transformed the field of natural language processing (NLP) and have become ubiquitous in solving a wide range of natural language understanding and generation tasks. Implications of such large language models (LLMs) on the U.S. labor market, are going to be significant. This course aims to cover topics centering around pre-trained language models. We will discuss their technical foundations (BERT, GPT, T5 models, mixture-of-expert models, retrieval-based models), emerging capabilities (knowledge, reasoning, etc.), fine-tuning and adaptation, system design. Students will be tasked with deploying large language models as well as fine tuning existing models (using a base language model). The class will start with a refresher on NLP and then delve into the deeper tasks of LLMs.

Aib 640 Artificial Intelligence and Strategic Decision Making (3)

This course explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies can be strategically leveraged by organizations for improving business efficiency and profitability. This course draws upon the recent development of AI technologies and correlates them to the corresponding strategic applications for operations and policy decision making. This course will draw upon the domains of technology, business, policy, management to help students become strategic thinkers in leveraging AI. The course will combine lectures, case studies, group discussions, hands-on labs and projects, and guest speakers to provide students with a holistic understanding of AI's role in shaping business strategy. Students will also learn how to manage and protect the data and models that are a part of the AI development life cycle. Some of the technologies that will be covered in the course include, clustering, classification, deep learning, large language models, generative AI including deep fakes, ethics and responsible AI, and autonomous systems. Students are also exposed to emerging policy and legislation around AI systems as well as how these systems can be audited.

Aib 650 AI & Ethics (3)

Artificial Intelligence has evolved to become a very potent tool that will have an enormous impact on society. While on one hand, it will bring enormous benefits to society in terms of automation of routine intellectual tasks and knowledge assimilation it also brings dystopian threats to society that upend the culture and destabilize the social order in society. In this class, we attempt to understand the short- and long-term impact of AI evolution on society through a series of discussions and case studies.

Aib 660 Capstone: Business Models in Artificial Intelligence (3)

This is a capstone course where students will pick a business domain to work and develop AI models/strategy for a company (live or simulated). This is an experiential learning course where student teams will work closely with the faculty instructor and a company to complete a project. Students will work in teams on the project and will have weekly sessions with the faculty instructor who will review their work. The project is defined in three parts. In the first part students will define the problem, do literature review, make a project plan, and collect and curate the data for training AI models. In the second part of the project, students will write the software/scripts to train AI models using different algorithms. In the third part of the project students will test their results for accuracy, robustness, biases, and conduct a security risk analysis on their models.
