NYS Master Teacher Network Expands to Include K-12 STEM

Albany, NY (November 20, 2019) - In October, the Capital Region welcomed 20 new New York State Master Teachers. These 20 outstanding teachers join a group of more than 150 local active and emeritus Master Teachers. This newest cohort comes from 14 different local school districts, now encompasses grades K-12, and includes all areas of STEM education. These educators are part of 228 new teacher-leaders across the state—one-third of them from elementary schools—recognized for their outstanding commitment to STEM education, on nine SUNY campuses.

The Master Teacher Program began in 2011 with the goal of improving STEM Education in the State of New York. Well qualified teachers undergo a rigorous vetting process and selection to this fellowship is an impressive accomplishment.

Along with announcing this latest round of Master Teachers, Governor Cuomo shared that applications are now being accepted for next year’s cohort, through February 22, 2020. If you or someone you know may be interested in applying, materials can be found at www.suny.edu/masterteacher.
