About

Elena is a first-year student in the Counseling Psychology doctoral program at UAlbany. 

She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Santa Clara University in 2020 with bachelor’s degrees in psychology and Spanish and a minor in English. As an undergraduate student, Elena worked in a social psychology lab and completed an honors thesis studying sexual assault language and victim blaming, assessing victim blaming language in active voice vs. passive voice and English vs. Spanish.  

After graduation, she worked with a healthcare non-profit as a case manager for people living with HIV. 

Her current research interests and aspirations include violence against women, sexual assault survivors and victim blame, suicide prevention, education and intervention for those at risk for HIV, and suicide prevalence among abuse survivors. 

In her free time, Elena enjoys hiking and camping with her dog, watching movies, and visiting friends and family in nearby areas.
