Public Statement

We are saddened by the deaths by suicide that are currently in the news.  We understand that some members of our campus community may also be personally impacted by suicide through family, friends, colleagues, or personal struggles.  If you or someone you care about is struggling with suicidal thoughts, help is available.

“The Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals.” – Suicidepreventionlifeline.org.

Emergency Services - 518-442-3131 or 911
If you feel that you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health emergency, please call University Police (on-campus) at 518-442-3131 or 911 off campus.

One way to get involved with suicide prevention is the annual UAlbany Out of the Darkness Walk.  The walk raises money for suicide prevention efforts nationally, and also serves to break down the stigma of mental health treatment.  This year’s walk will take place on April 13th at 12pm (registration starting at 11am).  For more information or to register, please visit afsp.org/ualbany.
