The University at Albany is welcoming 40 new faculty this fall, including 18 who specialize in artificial intelligence. The hires are part of an unprecedented hiring push to add 49 new faculty this year, including 27 who specialize in artificial intelligence-related disciplines as part of UAlbany’s AI Plus initiative to embed teaching and research about AI across all academic programs.

Engineering students from UAlbany were recently provided with the opportunity to attend the Society of Women Engineers conference in Connecticut thanks to the support of Lori Peppe Trezza, Class of 1983.

Researchers at the University at Albany, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the University of Iowa are collaborating on a project that will provide students a way to engage on a tactile level with a biological cell.

After a more than yearlong review, the University at Albany’s College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) has secured ABET accreditation for its bachelor of science degrees in computer science and electrical & computer engineering.

With the goal of becoming the first university-based computer to reach a quintillion computations per second, Albany AI will empower university and industry researchers to harness massive data sets to better understand how to automate complex operations, and create teaching and research collaborations with faculty in all disciplines.

The University at Albany today began a new era of teaching and research with the launch of Albany AI, a $200 million public-private supercomputing initiative based out of UAlbany’s soon-to-be-renovated College of Engineering and Applied Sciences building. Buoyed by $75 million in state funding to complete the transformation of the former Albany High School into a state-of-the-art engineering college and fund the construction of a supercomputer, the Albany Artificial Intelligence Supercomputing Initiative (Albany AI) will significantly expand New York’s capacity in this major emerging field.
