Associate Professor Allison Appleton has been named director of the University at Albany’s Center for Healthy Aging. Launched in 2024, the Center brings together faculty, researchers, students and community partners to advance innovative research, workforce development and community collaborations aimed at promoting healthy aging and longevity.

n just over a year, four groups of UAlbany researchers, students and Capital Region startups have moved through the Research & Innovators Startup Exchange (RISE), exploring what it takes to bring ideas beyond the lab and into the marketplace.

UAlbany senior Pratiksha Malayil was drawn to UAlbany for its nationally-renowned public health program and longstanding partnership with the New York State Department of Health. Four years later, she's graduating as an accomplished campus leader, a global health advocate and a future medical student.

As he completes his Master of Public Health at the University at Albany, Lieutenant Ryan Macherone is changing police work through harm reduction initiatives that connect people to care rather than arresting them or pursuing charges through the criminal justice system.

The title ranks above full professor and is conferred by the SUNY board of trustees to faculty who have made significant contributions to research and scholarship in their respective fields, garnering national or international prominence.
