About
Dr. Islam is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cybersecurity at the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity at the University at Albany. He leads the Cognitive-Security, Accountability, Fairness and Explainability (CAFE) Lab at UAlbany.
His research focuses on Fair and Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI), with applications in cybersecurity, health informatics and social good. His recent work emphasizes cognitive security, particularly safeguarding human and AI-driven decision-making processes against manipulation, bias and adversarial compromise.
Dr. Islam holds a PhD from Tennessee Tech University and has authored several peer-reviewed publications, along with a book on Explainable AI (XAI) for cybersecurity. He has secured multiple internal and external grants to advance research and education in explainability and fairness-aware AI, and has been recognized for excellence in both teaching and research.
