University at Albany Dance Council (UADC) receives second Diversity Transformation Award
The University at Albany Dance Council (UADC) is one of the largest student organizations at the University. The club is dedicated to promoting a diverse and inclusive environment on campus that allows students’ artistry and expression to be celebrated. No matter your dance abilities, UADC has a place for everyone. The club encourages any student to join and offers tiers of memberships.
With the leadership from a passionate group of women, Hope Tallon (President), Madison Galarneau (Vice President), Amanda Varnum (Treasurer), Kyra Kalinovsky (Secretary), Emma Dworetsky (Support Squad Captain), and their Faculty Advisor, Dr. Camelia Lenart the organization has expanded its opportunities immensely. This past fall the origination and Dr. Lenart secured their second Diversity Transformation Award from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion for their efforts to promote inclusion within the campus and local community. The Executive Board has also created a free afterschool dance program in partnership with Albany City School’s Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology (TOAST). They volunteer each Friday to bring dance instruction and positivity to the students at TOAST.
The club hosts over 20 weekly dance practices that feature student choreography in preparation for their end of semester showcases. In the Fall their show, “Focus On Me” held in the campuses Preforming Arts Center was widely successful. During the spring semester, they offered exciting new dances in the Performing Arts Center. The group is always open to new opportunities and collaborations. “I couldn’t be prouder to represent such a hard working group of UAlbany Students,” said Hope Tallon, the organization’s President.
