UAlbany’s General Education Program provides all undergraduate students with a strong academic and intellectual foundation, preparing them for continued work within their chosen majors and minors. For detailed information, please visit the General Education website.
Degree audits use your academic record to match the credits you’ve taken at UAlbany and the credits you’ve transferred to UAlbany to determine which General Education requirements those courses have fulfilled. Obtain a degree audit.
In some situations, students may request substitutions or waivers for certain General Education requirements.

Request a review of your foreign language proficiency to waive the Languages Other Than English requirement. You may be required to meet with a faculty member or present proof of competency through a proficiency exam. |

Request a UAlbany course be reviewed to meet a General Education requirement. Request a transfer course be used to meet a General Education requirement. Note: You must be a current student to make this request. To inquire about the status of a request, please email [email protected]. |

Request a waiver of credits towards the major and/or minor residence requirement. The academic department, school and/or college that offers the major or minor will be required to submit a recommendation. |

Request a waiver to the senior residence requirement (completing at least 30 of your final 60 credits at UAlbany). |
