R&E Week 2024: Scaling Impact in AI, Innovation & Creative Works
The University at Albany held its second Research & Entrepreneurship (R&E) Week October 21 to 24, 2024 — expanding the event in both scale and reach.
The annual event attracted participants from across New York State and beyond, including keynotes from:
- Germano Iannacchione, Director of the Division for Materials Research at the National Science Foundation
- Benjamin Friedman, Chief Operating Officer of the Research Foundation for SUNY
- Pin-Yu Chen, principal research scientist at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center
By providing a collaborative forum for scholars and partners from diverse disciplines, R&E Week showcases UAlbany’s research and economic potential while fostering new connections and opportunities for collaboration.

Event Highlights
More than a showcase of scientific discovery, R&E Week 2024 emphasized interdisciplinary collaboration and the integration of creative works into the research ecosystem.
More than 600 attendees saw presentations, panels and keynote addresses from 50 presenters from academia, government and industry —showcasing the strength and breadth of the University's research enterprise and industry partnerships.
R&E Week events were spread across four days and focused on:
- Artificial intelligence (AI) research in the Capital Region, including a panel discussion on sustainable AI
- Public impact, art and innovation
- Entrepreneurship, including the annual Blackstone Launchpad Ideas competition
