Accessible Parking for Students & Employees

Accessible parking is available to students & employees who have both a valid UAlbany student or employee parking permit and a valid license plate or placard displaying the Universal Symbol of Access. The person to whom the credential was issued must be driving or riding in the vehicle whenever accessible parking privileges are used. In addition to designated accessible spaces, valid credentials allow parking in faculty, staff, and student lots.

Accessible parking privileges do not exempt drivers from University parking regulations, parking fees, or state and local parking laws. Misuse may result in University citations, fines under New York State law, and suspension or revocation of parking privileges.

Students and employees without an accessible license plate or placard who seek a parking space for a quick errand should instead use UAlbany’s 15-minute parking spaces.  Never use a blue accessible space or blue accessible aisle in these instances.

Temporary Parking Accommodations for Students

Students who do not have a valid license plate or placard displaying the Universal Symbol of Access but need a temporary parking accommodation must contact Disability Access and Inclusion Student Services (DAISS) before contacting Parking and Mass Transit Services.

Parking and Mass Transit Services cannot accept or review medical documentation. DAISS will review and provide a recommendation to Parking Services.

In all scenarios, the University does not supply accessible plates or blue/red accessible placards.

Temporary Parking Accommodations for Employees

Employees who do not have a valid license plate or placard displaying the Universal Symbol of Access but need a temporary parking accommodation must contact the Office of Human Resouces (HR) before contacting Parking and Mass Transit Services.

Parking and Mass Transit Services cannot accept or review medical documentation. HR will review and provide a recommendation to Parking Services.

In all scenarios, the University does not supply accessible plates or placards.

Accessible Parking for Visitors

Accessible parking is available to visitors who have both a valid UAlbany visitor parking permit and a valid license plate or placard displaying the Universal Symbol of Access.

Visitors may purchase a $5.00 parking permit and complete the vehicle registration through the Parking Services Portal. Your plate will then be registered with Parking Services.

Individuals displaying accessible parking permits or license plates must still comply with all University parking regulations, as well as state and local parking laws. Accessible parking privileges do not waive parking fees or exempt drivers from enforcement actions and penalties.
