Spring 2026 Donation Opportunities

The Great Dane Move-out initiative allows UAlbany students to reduce waste and support their community by donating gently used items at the end of the academic year.

Let’s work together to keep items out of the landfill and promote a culture of reuse!

Donation Opportunities before Final Exams

Don’t wait until after finals to clear out your space! Take some time now to sort through your belongings and find items you don’t want or need anymore.

Who can donate: Any UAlbany student

What you can donate:

  • Clothing
  • Shoes
  • Household items
  • Decorations

When to donate: Noon to 4 p.m. Mondays and Fridays, until the final Free Market of the semester on Monday, May 4, 2026

Where to donate: Campus Center Bean

Who benefits: Any UAlbany students can take donated items for free.

What you can donate:

  • Clothing
  • Shoes
  • Small household items
  • Decorations

When to donate: Monday, April 13, to Tuesday, May 5, 2026, during SORC’s normal business hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Friday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where to donate: Campus Center West 183

Who benefits: Donations will be distributed to other UAlbany students at the UAlbany Free Market.

Donation Opportunities during and after Final Exams

As you get ready to move-out, donate gently used items at collection sites conveniently located near on-campus housing areas.

Residence Hall (Quad) Collections

Who can donate: Students living in any residence hall  

What you can donate:

  • Clothing
  • Shoes
  • Household items
  • Decorations
  • Small storage containers

When to donate: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, May 11, through Wednesday, May 13, 2026

Where to donate:

  • Indigenous Quad: Between Cayuga and Mahican Halls
  • Colonial Quad: Between Delancey and Hamilton Halls

Who benefits: Donations will be distributed to other UAlbany students at the UAlbany Free Market.

University Apartment Collections
University Apartment Collections

Who can donate: Students living in any university apartment complex

What you can donate:

  • Pots and pans
  • Dishes, glasses and mugs
  • Forks, knives, spoons and serving utensils
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Baking, mixing and serving dishes
  • Kitchen gadgets (can openers, peelers, etc.)
  • Small appliances (coffee makers, toasters, mixers, blenders, rice cookers, slow cookers, air fryers, etc.)

When to donate: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, May 15, and Sunday, May 17, 2026

Where to donate:

  • Empire Commons: Near the basketball courts
  • Liberty Terrace: North parking lot near the dumpsters

Who benefits: All donations will go to Grassroots Givers, a nonprofit organization that supports individuals and families experiencing poverty in the Albany, New York area.

Donate Unopened Food & Toiletries to the Purple Pantry

Who can donate: Any campus community member

What you can donate: Unopened, unexpired, non-perishable food and toiletries — see a list of our most-needed items

When to donate: May 6 to 13, 2026

Where to donate:

  • State Quad Dining Hall
  • Indigenous Quad Dining Hall
  • Campus Center (near bottle/can redemption machines)

Who benefits: The Purple Pantry is open to all current UAlbany students, faculty and staff.

Residence halls (quads) close for all students — except for those graduating — at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2026.

On-campus apartments close for all students — including those graduating — at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2026.

Plan to remove all items from your apartment before your lease ends. If you leave items in your apartment or on the curb, your landlord may withhold your security deposit and the city may levy fines.
