UAlbany Graduate Student Earns IBM PhD Fellowship Award

Aozhong Zhang, a graduate student in UAlbany's Department of Mathematics & Statistics Department, has received the IBM PhD Fellowship Award for January 1, 2026, through May 30, 2027.

The IBM PhD Fellowship Program, begun in 1951, bolsters faculty, students and universities by recognizing and supporting exceptional PhD students whose research is focused on areas of interest in technology. Aozhong Zhang’s doctoral research, supervised by Professor Penghang Yin, investigates the algorithms and system-level optimizations that enable the efficient deployment of large language models.
