Mackenzie Mekeel
“This Scholarship has made it possible for me to go to my dream college,” says Amy M. Knapp ’97 Scholarship recipient Mackenzie Mekeel. Mekeel, an Avon, NY native, has wanted to attend UAlbany since middle school. She worked three jobs to help cover the cost of her education, so the assistance the Knapp Scholarship provides is a huge relief for her.
The freshman is considering a major in psychology or criminal justice and wants to work for the FBI or Homeland Security. She hopes to intern with the FBI this summer. Mekeel is a member of the living-learning community World of Career Discovery, where she has had the opportunity to network with Alumni and improve her resume writing skills.
When she is not busy focusing on her classes and career goals, Mekeel plays club soccer and volunteers with Students of UAlbany Against Cancer, where she helps raise funds and awareness. Globally-minded, she plans to study abroad in Japan and minor in a language, possibly Spanish.
Mekeel is excited to make the most of her time at UAlbany and couldn’t be more enthusiastic about her university and all the opportunities it has provided her.
