Liam Roche
Senior Liam Roche is both passionate and driven when it comes to his studies and goals for the future. The business major, who hails from Patchogue, NY, is concentrating his studies in marketing and entrepreneurship and plans to launch his career in marketing upon graduation in May 2019. He is also considering getting his MBA after gaining some work experience, and one day would like to start his own business related to something creative that he cares deeply about.
Receiving the Erica and Michael Olin Presidential Scholarship was both a financial relief for Roche and an incentive. It made him realize that hard work does pay off and says, “I am motivated to do more to be a leader on campus.” Roche is currently president of the UAlbany wrestling club and remains dedicated to the sport he has participated in since middle school.
As part of his UAlbany program, Roche had the opportunity to intern at Speedway LLC last summer. The internship gave him invaluable career experience. He learned about all aspects of the company, from operations to retail, marketing to human resources. He has also gained critical skills from his favorite class, Entrepreneurship with Professor Wales. With Wales’s guidance, Roche improved his public speaking ability and describes a group project for which he developed a business plan for a clothing brand for the visually impaired as a “great experience.”
Grateful for his scholarship, Roche is intent on giving back to UAlbany after he graduates. One idea he has is to start a social venture the serves students and the campus community.
