The Juneteenth Scholarship

The Juneteenth Scholarship was established by UAlbany alumni Bria McKiver, MA ’20 and Jorge Chacon ’19 following the spring 2020 Black Lives Matter rallies against racism and systemic inequalities. Named for a long-celebrated day of liberation and legacy in the African-American community, The Juneteenth Scholarship will provide vital support to UAlbany students while promoting values of diversity and inclusion on-campus and will be awarded annually through the President's Leadership Awards.

“Black history is very rich and complex. It is filled with countless triumphs despite the centuries of systemic racism and should be recognized and celebrated. I think this scholarship is a step in the right direction. ALL BLACK LIVES MATTER,” said McKiver via email.

“We are proud to steward this meaningful scholarship that commemorates Juneteenth, recognizes and supports our students, and embraces the critical importance of diversity, equity, inclusion and tolerance throughout UAlbany,” said Fardin Sanai, vice president for University Advancement.
