The New York State Writers Institute has installed an exhibition at UAlbany's Science Library featuring Morrison's desk and chair — underscoring her indelible impact on future generations of writers.

Please join the English Department for the Douglass Day Transcribe-a-thon on Friday February 13! Come by the Multi-Purpose Room (Campus Center West) at any time between 12 and 3pm. All you need is your personal laptop or tablet to participate in this crowdsourcing transcription project! Help us document the ways that African American communities helped to imagine, pass, and protect all of our 14th Amendment Rights, including birthright citizenship, due process, and equal protection under the law for all persons. You don't need to know how to transcribe; you'll learn when you arrive! It will be a fun, celebratory activity with cake and music!

Alumni Monte Lipman ’86 and Avery Lipman ’88 — the groundbreaking brothers who founded Republic Records, a division of Universal Music Group, the world’s leading music company — have established an endowment at UAlbany that will bring programs and performances to the Campus Center’s auditorium, newly renamed the Monte Lipman ’86 and Avery Lipman ’88 Republic Records Music Hall.

UAlbany English Associate Professor Laura Wilder's book, "Tracing the Impact of First-Year Writing: Identity, Process and Transfer at a Public University," won the Best Writing Across the Curriculum Monograph Award, given jointly by the Association for Writing Across the Curriculum and The WAC Clearinghouse.

Congratulations to English major, Thiri Lin Bo, whose short story, "The Sloth” will be published in the 2026 edition of the Sigma Tau Delta journal, Rectangle.
